Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced that all new road development projects across the province will be equipped with a modern traffic management system and solar-powered streetlights as part of a wider plan to upgrade Punjab’s transport infrastructure.
According to official details, more than 30,000 kilometres of roads have so far been constructed, repaired or rehabilitated under the province’s ongoing development programme. The initiative is aimed at improving connectivity between cities, towns and rural areas while providing citizens with safer, smoother and more efficient travel facilities.
The chief minister said work under the CM Local Roads Programme was progressing rapidly in several districts. She directed the relevant departments to ensure timely completion of all road construction and rehabilitation schemes while maintaining strict quality standards, transparency and effective monitoring throughout the process.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif described the road development programme as a major step towards modernising Punjab’s infrastructure. She said multi-billion-rupee projects had been launched across the province to improve public mobility, reduce travel difficulties and support economic activity through better transport links.
The chief minister also directed authorities to enforce lane and line discipline in Lahore and other major cities. She said improved traffic regulation and better road-use behaviour were essential parts of broader urban management reforms.
In addition to road construction, transport infrastructure and bus stop development projects have been approved for Faisalabad, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and Multan. These projects are expected to improve public transport facilities and make daily commuting more convenient for citizens.
Mass transit projects are also underway in Faisalabad and Gujranwala to provide modern public transport systems in major urban centres. Officials say these schemes will help reduce traffic pressure and improve access to affordable transport services.
The chief minister also highlighted the restoration of important highways in Murree under the Restoration of Roads Programme. She said the improvement of major roads in the hill station had made travel easier for both tourists and local residents.
Under the future development plan, all newly built roads in Punjab will include solar-powered streetlights. The move is aimed at promoting energy efficiency, improving road safety at night and supporting sustainable infrastructure development across the province.

Revenue-related public services across Chunian and surrounding areas have been significantly affected due to the ongoing strike by patwar staff, creating difficulties for citizens seeking land records, ownership certificates, and property transfer services.
According to local sources, the suspension of routine work at patwar offices has delayed a wide range of land administration processes, including property transfers, inheritance cases, court-related documentation, and records required for banking and financial transactions.
Residents, farmers, and property owners report that the disruption has caused administrative delays and financial inconvenience, particularly for people traveling from rural areas to access revenue services. Many applicants have been forced to make repeated visits to offices without receiving the required documentation.
In response to the situation, community representatives and local residents have submitted written applications to Assistant Commissioner Chunian Sidra Sattar, requesting immediate intervention and temporary arrangements to restore essential public services.
Applicants have emphasized that land administration services are critical to daily economic and legal activities and should remain accessible to the public. They have urged authorities to utilize available resources, including land record centers and alternative revenue staff, to ensure the continued issuance of ownership records and processing of land transfers.
Local stakeholders noted that a large portion of the population in Chunian, Ellahabad, and nearby rural areas relies on efficient revenue services for agricultural land management, property transactions, and legal matters. They believe that a prolonged disruption could have wider economic and administrative consequences.
Residents have appealed to the district administration and relevant authorities to facilitate dialogue between all stakeholders and develop a timely solution that restores normal operations while protecting the public interest.

Lahore Development Authority Director General Tahir Farooq has directed all relevant sections of the authority to accelerate revenue recovery operations during the final weeks of the current financial year.
The directions were issued during a review meeting held under his chairmanship to assess revenue generation, budget targets and recovery performance across different wings of the LDA. The meeting reviewed the budget targets assigned to all sections of the authority and examined the progress made so far in achieving recovery goals.
Speaking on the occasion, DG LDA Tahir Farooq said recovery operations must be intensified before the close of the financial year. He directed officials to ensure that all pending recoveries are actively pursued and no delay is allowed in cases where payments are due.
The DG also instructed the concerned teams to ensure recovery from cases approved by the Planning and Design Committee. He said all departments must work in close coordination to meet revenue targets and improve the financial position of the authority.
Tahir Farooq further directed that strict action be taken against properties that have failed to pay illegal commercial penalties. He said enforcement measures should be strengthened against defaulters and teams should proceed according to law wherever dues remain unpaid.
The Director General also instructed the Directorate of Auction to take special measures for achieving its recovery targets. He directed the town planning and revenue teams to work additional hours in order to facilitate citizens and complete pending recovery related work within the available time.
He said additional staff should also be deployed during the last days of the financial year to provide better services to citizens and ensure smooth processing of revenue matters.
During the meeting, NESPAK officials briefed the participants about land use surveys being carried out in different LDA schemes. The briefing covered progress on survey work and its relevance to planning, regulation and future revenue management.
The meeting was attended by the Additional Director General Housing, Chief Town Planner One, Chief Town Planner Two, Chief IT Officer, Director Revenue, Deputy Director Finance and other officials. Officers from town planning and NESPAK also participated in the meeting.
