Sindh’s post flood housing programme is emerging as more than a reconstruction initiative, with ownership of newly built homes and land being placed in the names of women in beneficiary families.
The Sindh Information Department and Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF) are highlighting the ownership aspect of the programme across their social media platforms.
The initiative means that women are not only receiving shelter but are also gaining legal ownership of a permanent property asset.
Having a house or land registered in a woman’s name can strengthen her economic security and provide a legally recognised stake in family property.
The measure is particularly significant in areas where land and housing assets have traditionally been registered primarily in the names of male family members.
By linking housing reconstruction with ownership rights for women, the SPHF programme is also bringing greater attention to women’s property ownership and land rights in Sindh.
Sindh’s post flood housing programme is not only rebuilding damaged homes. It is also creating a pathway for women to become legal property owners, giving the programme a wider significance for women’s land and property rights.

House Building Finance Company Limited (HBFC) has announced the public auction of mortgaged properties in several cities across Pakistan for recovery of outstanding financing under Section 15 of the Recovery of Finances Ordinance, 2001.
According to the public auction notice, residential and other mortgaged properties located in Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Rahim Yar Khan, Sahiwal, Quetta, Bahawalnagar and Faisalabad have been put up for sale. The properties relate to borrowers against whom HBFC is pursuing recovery proceedings.
The auctions will be held on different dates during September and October 2026, generally at 11:00am, with property-wise reserve prices and required earnest money specified in the notice. The listed reserve prices vary according to the location and value of each property.
Interested bidders will be required to participate in accordance with HBFC’s auction terms and deposit the prescribed earnest money. The successful bidders will also have to complete payment within the stipulated period, while applicable taxes, duties and other transfer-related charges will be borne in accordance with the auction conditions.
HBFC has advised prospective bidders to inspect the relevant properties and verify the available details before participating in the auction process.

The Sindh government has distributed solar home system kits to 2,615 eligible families across 13 districts under its “Roshan Ghar – Roshan Sindh” initiative, as the province moves ahead with a wider programme aimed at providing affordable and sustainable electricity to hundreds of thousands of households.
The solar kits are being distributed under the Solar Home System Project of the Sindh Energy Department, with the Sindh Rural Support Organisation (SRSO) responsible for implementing the programme.
According to an SRSO spokesperson, the initiative has so far reached 2,615 beneficiary households in 13 districts of Sindh. The programme is eventually planned to cover 275,000 households across all 30 districts of the province.
The project is primarily aimed at families that need access to reliable and affordable electricity, particularly households in areas where conventional power supplies are limited or unreliable.
Under the programme, eligible households receive solar home system kits free of cost, reducing the financial burden associated with installing alternative energy systems.
SRSO said beneficiaries are not selected automatically. Applicants and potential recipients are subjected to a scrutiny and verification process based on eligibility criteria established by the Sindh government.
The organisation said the verification mechanism is intended to ensure that solar kits reach eligible households and that the distribution process remains transparent.
SRSO has also clarified that beneficiaries are not required to pay any fee or charge at any stage of the programme.
According to the organisation, no payment is collected for the household survey, eligibility verification, distribution of equipment or installation of the solar home systems.
The clarification is significant as the programme expands into more districts and a larger number of households become involved in the beneficiary selection and installation process.
The provincial government plans to extend the project across Sindh's entire 30-district administrative network, making it one of the province's major household-level renewable energy initiatives.
With a target of 275,000 households, however, the programme remains in its early stages. The 2,615 kits distributed so far represent less than one per cent of the overall household target, indicating that the bulk of the planned distribution is still to come.
The initiative is part of the Sindh government's broader efforts to increase access to renewable energy and reduce the impact of inadequate conventional electricity supplies on households, particularly in underserved and rural communities.
Solar home systems can provide households with an alternative source of electricity for basic domestic requirements while reducing dependence on conventional grid supplies.
The programme also reflects the growing role of decentralised solar energy in Pakistan, where households are increasingly turning to renewable energy amid electricity affordability and supply challenges.
For Sindh, the next major phase will involve expanding beneficiary verification, distribution and installation operations from the 13 districts reached so far to all 30 districts while maintaining transparency in the selection process.
Once implemented at its targeted scale, the Roshan Ghar – Roshan Sindh initiative is expected to provide solar-powered electricity solutions to 275,000 households across the province, with eligible beneficiaries receiving the systems without paying for their distribution or installation.
